About Aunt Harriet...

Harriet Hopgood is “Aunt Harriet” to all her friends’ children and grandchildren so she decided what better name for the business of taking care of four-legged children? She has been involved with dogs her entire life. She did some handling in the Jr. Showmanship ring as a youngster and as a high school student and 4-H member she raised and trained puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, California.

Aunt Harriet took a break from raising and showing dogs while she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of California at Davis and her Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. After getting established in her 30+ year career with the State of California Department of Social Services, she again began showing and training dogs—first Shelties and then Tibetan Terriers.

When Aunt Harriet retired from the State of California in December 2002 she realized that this would be the time in her life when she could live wherever she wanted to live and devote her life to the dogs she loves so much. She sold her home in Elk Grove, CA and purchased her current home on six acres outside of Sequim, WA. She moved to Sequim with her best friend and new business partner, Mike Love. Mike founded and continues to operate Central Valley Collie and Sheltie Rescue (www.cvcsr.com) With Harriet’s extensive administrative background, dog breeding, training and showing experience coupled with Mike’s many years of experience working at and managing kennels they have built Aunt Harriet’s Bed ‘N Biscuit into one of the most respected dog boarding facilities on the Olympic Peninsula.
